en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 7, U.S. specialty materials company Momentive announced that it has started production of NXT P97 bio-based silane coupling agent at its Chennai plant in Tamil Nadu, India. The product has a renewable carbon content of 79% and is mainly used in silica-filled tire tread rubber formulations. This production launch will extend product supply to India, the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region, and the relevant production facilities have entered the operational phase.

NXT P97 belongs to the mercaptosilane class of rubber additives and is mainly used to improve the interaction between silica and rubber polymers. Technical materials published by Momentive show that the product can improve filler dispersion, wear resistance, and rolling resistance in tire tread compounds, and maintain extrusion processing stability of the compound after formulation adjustments. The product's renewable carbon ratio is confirmed according to the ASTM D6866 test method; the relevant metric refers to the product's carbon source and does not mean that carbon emissions in the tire manufacturing process are reduced by 79%.

Momentive's R&D center in Bangalore, India, will provide formulation development, performance optimization, regulatory compliance, and application technical support for the silane products produced in Chennai. The company will use local manufacturing facilities to supply products to tire manufacturers and conduct processing performance and product application validation according to customers' formulation requirements.
