en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 9, Sweden's Sandvik Group, through its subsidiary Sandvik Coromant, expanded the CoroDrill Dura 462 solid carbide drill series with the launch of new deep-hole drills covering drilling depths of 12–30×D. The product has completed customer field testing, demonstrating an average tool life increase of 45% and a productivity increase of 25% compared with competing products. It is primarily aimed at the machining of automotive, aerospace, oil and gas, and pump and valve components.

The new deep-hole drill features the X2BM carbide grade, a micrograin carbide substrate, and Zertivo 2.0 physical vapor deposition (PVD) coating. The drill is equipped with a 135° point angle, and its cutting structure incorporates optimized flutes, offset double margin, double chip flutes, and a transition radius flute bottom design, optimized for tool stability, axial cutting forces, hole position accuracy, and chip evacuation in deep-hole machining.

According to official Sandvik Coromant product documentation, the expanded deep-hole drill range includes 943 specifications, covering 273 different diameters ranging from 3–20 mm. The maximum available diameter varies by length specification, and the series also offers custom tool options.

For machining tasks with drilling depths exceeding 15×D, Sandvik Coromant recommends first using a 3×D or 5×D short-hole drill from the same series to machine a pilot hole, followed by a deep-hole drill of the corresponding diameter to complete the subsequent machining. The short-hole drill and deep-hole drill use matching diameter specifications, eliminating the need for a separate dedicated pilot drill.

The deep-hole drill series supports multiple regrinding and refurbishment cycles, with a design goal of maintaining original cutting performance and drilling diameter after regrinding. With the addition of the new deep-hole drills to the product portfolio, the CoroDrill Dura 462 series now further covers micro-hole, short-hole, and deep-hole drilling operations.
