en.Wedoany.com Reported - UK-based precision engineering manufacturer Nasmyth has been awarded its first air inlet manifold manufacturing contract by Finnish industrial technology company Coolbrook, under which it will manufacture core components for the latter's Rotodynamic Heater (RDH). The equipment is electrically driven and targets process temperatures of up to 1,700°C, serving high-temperature industrial production sectors such as steel, cement, chemicals, and petrochemicals.

Nasmyth and Coolbrook had already engaged in several months of technical collaboration prior to the contract award. Nasmyth will leverage its capabilities in precision machining, complex structural component manufacturing, and welding to undertake air inlet manifold production. The company's business encompasses four specialized areas—precision machining, manufacturing and welding, systems integration, and metal surface treatment—serving the aerospace, defense, energy, and industrial equipment markets.

The rotodynamic heating technology developed by Coolbrook combines turbomachinery with chemical processes, using an electric motor to drive a rotor that directly transfers mechanical energy to air, nitrogen, or other process gases to achieve high-temperature gas heating. The company has developed two categories of technology products—rotodynamic heaters and rotodynamic reactors—used respectively for industrial high-temperature process heating and petrochemical steam cracking processes.

Coolbrook has built a large-scale test facility at the Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Geleen, the Netherlands. The first-phase testing completed in 2023 achieved process temperatures exceeding 1,000°C and validated the pathway toward the 1,700°C technical target. In February 2025, the facility further completed testing of natural gas heating to 1,000°C, verifying the equipment's capability to heat methane and other hydrocarbon gases.

In July 2026, Coolbrook and ABB advanced the deployment of an industrial-scale rotodynamic heater at Adani Cement's Boyareddypalli integrated cement plant in Andhra Pradesh, India. ABB was awarded the electrical equipment supply task for the project, responsible for providing drive units, electric motors, electrical equipment rooms, and supporting electrical infrastructure, integrated with the ABB Ability System 800xA distributed control system.

Coolbrook had previously established a partnership with UK-based Trac Precision Solutions, which supplies precision machined parts and cast components for the rotodynamic heater. Nasmyth's air inlet manifold contract further expands the manufacturing supplier system for the equipment, and the relevant contract has now entered the manufacturing task award stage.
