Saudi IMI Awarded Contract for Offshore Production Platform and Jacket Fabrication from Lamprell

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 8, UAE-based offshore engineering contractor Lamprell signed an offshore structures fabrication agreement with Saudi International Maritime Industries (IMI), under which IMI will undertake the fabrication of an offshore production platform and associated jacket at its Ras Al Khair shipyard in eastern Saudi Arabia. These structures are part of an offshore engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) project currently being executed by Lamprell, and this marks IMI's first undertaking of offshore production platform and jacket fabrication work.

Under the agreement, IMI will utilize the existing industrial facilities at the Ras Al Khair shipyard to carry out the fabrication tasks, while Lamprell will continue to handle the execution of the related offshore EPCI project. This division of work places the fabrication of the offshore production platform and jacket within Saudi Arabia. The two parties plan to combine Lamprell's experience in offshore engineering design, construction, and installation to advance IMI's offshore structure fabrication business. The agreement does not explicitly disclose the specific boundaries of responsibility for sub-items such as design, material procurement, offshore transportation, and final installation.

The Ras Al Khair shipyard is being jointly constructed and operated by Saudi Aramco, Lamprell, Bahri Shipping Company, and Hyundai Heavy Industries. The base's original business plan covered commercial shipbuilding, offshore drilling rig fabrication, and ship and drilling rig repair. This fabrication agreement incorporates production platforms and jackets into its offshore fabrication business scope. IMI stated that this work is the shipyard's first undertaking of such offshore structure fabrication tasks.

According to the shipyard's previously announced overall capacity plan, once the facilities are fully operational, it is expected to build 6 offshore drilling rigs and more than 40 vessels per year, and provide annual maintenance services for up to 250 vessels and 15 drilling rigs.
