en.Wedoany.com Reported - On 1 October, Liebherr announced that TMTO, a regional shipping operator in French Polynesia, has selected the LS-C 60 hydraulic luffing marine crane for its multi-purpose vessel Mareva Nui II, which is under construction. The vessel is customised for freight and passenger transport needs in the Tuamotu Islands, with Dutch shipbuilding and maritime consultancy Handelskade responsible for the vessel's engineering, construction, procurement and commissioning, and construction taking place at Hong Ha Shipyard in Vietnam. Vertikal followed up on the project on 7 October.

The LS-C 60 features a hydraulic cylinder luffing structure with a maximum lifting capacity of 40 tonnes, a minimum working radius of 3 metres, and the ability to lift cargo to a working radius of 32 metres. This structure reduces the number of wire ropes and pulleys, lowering mechanical complexity and subsequent maintenance requirements, while its compact layout and lower centre of gravity reduce the impact on deck space and vessel stability.

The Mareva Nui II integrates cargo transport and passenger accommodation functions within the same hull, featuring a mezzanine deck, folding hatch covers and dedicated living spaces. Handelskade is responsible for turnkey delivery of the complete vessel, with scope of work including engineering design, ship construction, equipment procurement and commissioning, with the crane incorporated into the overall vessel system as the primary cargo handling equipment on board.

TMTO is a wholly owned subsidiary of SNP, primarily serving routes in the Tuamotu Islands. The local islands are widely dispersed, and some ports of call have limited shore-based cargo handling facilities. Once the new vessel enters service, it will simultaneously undertake the transport of supplies, general cargo and passengers, with the on-board crane enabling independent loading and unloading at ports lacking shore crane facilities.

The Mareva Nui II is currently nearing completion. Handelskade will continue to complete the vessel's system integration and commissioning, and deliver it to TMTO in a complete turnkey state for operation on Tuamotu Islands routes.
