en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 9, Kenya's National Irrigation Authority announced the implementation arrangements for agricultural water projects in Nandi County, planning to invest KES 270 million to advance 4 irrigation and dam projects. The projects are distributed across three wards: Nandi Hills, Tinderet, and Mosop, with the Bombo-Chemelil irrigation project allocated KES 100 million.

The investment is being advanced by Kenya's National Irrigation Authority, with works including agricultural irrigation and dam facility construction. The Bombo-Chemelil project is located in the Tinderet area and aims to improve irrigation water supply conditions for local farmland. The remaining projects cover areas including Nandi Hills, Tinderet, and Mosop, with some facilities also designed to serve community water needs depending on specific designs.

In September 2026, Joel Tanui, head of Land Reclamation and Climate Resilience at Kenya's National Irrigation Authority, along with other government officials, visited the relevant project sites to assess the proposed works and construction readiness. This round of arrangements has now entered the implementation planning stage following the site assessments.

Kenya has identified improving agricultural water supply conditions as the primary implementation objective of the Bombo-Chemelil project. The Tinderet area where the project is located relies on agricultural production as one of its main economic activities, and the planned works will provide irrigation water to local farmers. The government has also proposed supporting measures including water source conservation area protection, soil erosion control, and farmland degradation management.
