LG Electronics Partners with Apple to Develop Smart Home Devices, Some Products to Be Manufactured at Hyundai HT's Vietnam Plant

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 12, new progress was made in the supply chain arrangement for smart home devices jointly developed by South Korea's LG Electronics and Apple. According to relevant certification materials from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC), among the seven categories of smart home products LG Electronics plans to launch, the manufacturing facilities for three types of devices—smart door locks, thermostats, and temperature sensors—point to a Vietnam plant under South Korea's Hyundai HT.

The products jointly developed by the two parties include smart door locks, wired video doorbells, thermostats, temperature sensors, indoor security cameras, outdoor security cameras, and lighting-integrated security cameras. According to previously disclosed cooperation arrangements, Apple participates in product design, feature development, and engineering work, while LG Electronics is responsible for selling products under its own brand and providing customer support. Some devices are planned to connect to Apple's upcoming smart home control system.

FCC public records show that LG's smart thermostat, model TMCTAW5W, has submitted certification materials including wireless communication, RF testing, antenna specifications, and product labeling. The relevant technical documents list configurations such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread, and 60GHz radar. The smart door lock involves features such as ultra-wideband (UWB) proximity recognition, NFC, and automatic unlocking.

Hyundai HT's Vietnam production subsidiary, HYUNDAI HT GLOBAL, is located in Binh Xuyen Industrial Park, Vietnam. In November 2025, Hyundai HT announced plans to establish its first overseas production subsidiary, with an investment of approximately 12 billion won, originally scheduled to complete factory construction in December 2025 and begin mass production in 2026. This production base and Hyundai HT's previously established Vietnam sales subsidiary, HYUNDAI HT VINA, are responsible for manufacturing and market sales operations, respectively.

Hyundai HT and LG Electronics have previously engaged in smart home business cooperation. In 2019, the two parties signed a memorandum of understanding on smart home business cooperation; in August 2026, Hyundai HT, together with LG Electronics and other partners, advanced the development of a service connecting apartment home network systems with LG home appliance devices. The products included in the FCC manufacturing facility materials this time are the three types of devices in the cooperation for which the Vietnam manufacturing source has been clearly identified.
