en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 13, the 240 TEU intelligent electric container ship "Suigang Dianhang 02" set sail from Nansha Phase III Terminal of Guangzhou Port, fully loaded with furniture, daily necessities and other goods produced in Guangdong, bound for Hong Kong International Terminals. This maiden voyage marks the commencement of operations of the first zero-carbon container route from Guangzhou to Hong Kong in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The vessel is powered purely by batteries and equipped with a containerized power source charging and swapping system, with a rated carrying capacity of 240 TEU per ship.

The "Suigang Dianhang 02" was invested in and built by Guangzhou Port Shipping Co., Ltd. The project completed filing in February 2026 under filing number 2602-440112-04-03-847448, with a total investment of 25.5 million yuan and a planned annual transport capacity of 60,000 TEU. The filed construction period runs from February to October 2026.

The vessel is powered by containerized power batteries and configured with two energy replenishment methods: charging and crane-based battery swapping. Sailing power can be replenished either by replacing the containerized power source or by direct charging. The ship is equipped with an intelligent operation and maintenance platform that integrates energy consumption monitoring, equipment status monitoring, operation and maintenance, and ship-shore collaborative management functions.

This route connects Nansha Phase III Terminal of Guangzhou Port with Hong Kong International Terminals, primarily carrying furniture, daily necessities and other containerized goods produced in the Pearl River Delta region. The vessel uses pure electric propulsion and does not directly emit carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides or particulate matter from fuel combustion during navigation.

The previously published emission reduction estimates for the "Suigang Dianhang" series of vessels indicate a reduction of more than 550 tons of carbon emissions per ship per year, with cumulative reductions of approximately 19,000 tons over the full life cycle. The first vessel in the series, "Suigang Dianhang 01," was delivered on December 29, 2025, with the same designed carrying capacity of 240 TEU and equipped with 3 sets of containerized power sources with a total battery capacity of no less than 5,997 kWh.
