en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 19, Spanish engineering company Técnicas Reunidas announced that its Canadian subsidiary TR Canada E&C has been awarded the Coastal GasLink natural gas pipeline Phase 2 contract by LNG Canada, valued at over €200 million, with an expected execution period of more than four years. The contract covers detailed engineering design, procurement, and construction management services, involving the addition of 5 new natural gas compressor stations and modifications to existing and planned facilities along the route.

Técnicas Reunidas wins LNG Canada pipeline project contract

The project is located in British Columbia, Canada, and involves capacity expansion relying on the existing 670-kilometer natural gas pipeline. The pipeline transports natural gas from the northeastern part of the province to the Kitimat LNG export facility, with a current transmission capacity of approximately 2.1 billion cubic feet per day. Phase 2 will add compression facilities along the existing pipeline route to expand natural gas transmission capacity, without building new mainline pipelines.

This contract adopts an engineering, procurement, and construction management model. LNG Canada serves as the execution manager for Phase 2, responsible for overall project coordination; TR Canada E&C undertakes detailed engineering design, procurement, and construction management; Coastal GasLink continues to serve as the owner, operator, and permit holder of the pipeline and associated facilities.

Técnicas Reunidas had previously participated in consulting, preliminary engineering design, and front-end engineering design work for the project. In March 2026, the company was awarded the Phase 2 front-end engineering design contract, undertaking engineering studies for new compressor stations and adjustments to existing facilities. On September 28, LNG Canada shareholders completed the final investment decision for the Phase 2 expansion, subsequently advancing the pipeline expansion project to the detailed design, procurement, and construction management stage.

The LNG Canada Phase 2 expansion project also includes adding two new LNG production trains at Kitimat, increasing annual LNG production capacity from 14 million tonnes to 28 million tonnes, and constructing additional storage tanks, condensate storage tanks, loading berths, and supporting utility systems. The pipeline expansion project will be implemented in conjunction with the LNG facility expansion.
