en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 15, data from Brazil's National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) showed that BP has encountered oil and gas shows in the first exploration well in the pre-salt Tupinambá block in the Santos Basin, and reported to the regulator on October 14. The well, designated 1-BP-14-SPS, is located in waters approximately 2,343 meters deep. BP serves as the operator and is drilling the well using Transocean's "Deepwater Mykonos" drillship.

The 1-BP-14-SPS well was spudded on September 8. The Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) issued an environmental license on September 4, approving BP's exploration drilling program of up to three wells in the block, with the drilling of the other two wells contingent on the results of the first well. The license also permits short-term formation testing, including isolation of the target formation, fluid sampling, reservoir pressure measurement and flow rate determination.

The "Deepwater Mykonos" drillship is chartered by BP under a contract covering operations from September 2026 to June 2027. The Tupinambá block is located in the pre-salt area of the Santos Basin offshore Brazil, approximately 400 kilometers from the coast, and the current exploration phase is scheduled to end on May 27, 2031.

BP acquired full working interest in the Tupinambá block in December 2023 in Brazil's second permanent production sharing bid round. On September 2, 2026, Shell Brasil and BP signed an agreement for Shell to acquire a 50% interest in the block. Upon completion of the transaction, each party will hold a 50% interest, with BP continuing as operator. The interest transaction is subject to relevant regulatory approvals.
