en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 22, China's Ministry of Natural Resources and the National Energy Administration jointly released the "China Marine Energy Development and Utilization Report 2026." The report shows that China's cumulative installed marine energy capacity has reached 12.3 MW, with more than 3.3 MW of new installations added since the 14th Five-Year Plan period, accounting for over 30% of global new marine energy installations during the same period. China's independent design, manufacturing, operation and maintenance capabilities for megawatt-scale tidal current energy power generation equipment have reached internationally advanced levels, and demonstration applications of wave energy power generation have also made new progress.

In terms of marine energy equipment research and development, China has developed independent design, manufacturing, operation and maintenance capabilities for megawatt-scale tidal current energy units. Megawatt-scale wave energy power generation devices have achieved the world's first demonstration of power supply to remote islands, extending marine energy power generation technology from equipment research and development to practical power supply application scenarios.

Marine energy resource surveys and technical standards development are being advanced in parallel. China has now developed a "one map" of marine energy resource distribution in key sea areas and established a marine energy equipment testing and certification system covering equipment testing, performance evaluation and related technical certification work.

Meng Qinglei, Deputy Director of the Marine Strategic Planning and Economics Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources, introduced that as of the end of 2025, China has formulated and implemented 47 marine energy-related standards, and the main development goals and implementation pathways for marine energy development and utilization over the next 5 to 10 years have also been clearly defined.

In February 2025, the Ministry of Natural Resources, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and three other departments jointly issued the "Guiding Opinions on Promoting the Large-Scale Utilization of Marine Energy," which explicitly calls for advancing the development of tidal range energy, tidal current energy and wave energy, expanding engineering demonstration applications, and promoting the integration of marine energy with island power supply, seawater desalination and offshore production activities.
