India's BL Agro Plans to Invest INR 70 Billion in Edible Oil Processing Facilities in Tanzania
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 22, Indian food processing company BL Agro announced plans to invest INR 70 billion (INR 7,000 crore) in phases over the next 10 years in Tanzania to build edible oil production and processing facilities, while expanding into dairy processing, livestock farming, agricultural research and development, and manufacturing operations. Edible oil has been identified as the primary investment focus; the company will leverage Tanzania's oilseed crop resources to build a local processing system, while also advancing dairy infrastructure and agricultural supply chain projects.

BL Agro is headquartered in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, India, and operates food brands including Bail Kolhu and Nourish. This round of overseas investment will initially focus on Tanzania's oilseed crops such as sunflower seeds, with plans to establish edible oil production, processing, and local supply facilities to meet local market demand. The company will also explore introducing Indian processing technologies and equipment in dairy processing, livestock and poultry farming, and related agricultural manufacturing segments.
Prior to announcing the investment plan, BL Agro sent a five-member delegation to visit Tanzania to discuss investment opportunities and project implementation pathways with local government representatives and industry stakeholders. Tanzania's High Commissioner to India, Anisa K. Mbega, welcomed the investment plan. BL Agro Managing Director Ashish Khandelwal stated that the company plans to leverage Tanzania's agricultural and livestock resources to establish a long-term business system covering agricultural production, processing, and supply chains.
Dairy and livestock farming represent another planned investment area. BL Agro is evaluating opportunities to build modern dairy farming and dairy processing facilities, while also exploring contract farming and agricultural supply chain cooperation with local farmers. Through phased investment, the company plans to integrate edible oil processing, agricultural production, and dairy manufacturing operations into its operational footprint in Tanzania.
