en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 21, Australia's Woodside Energy published its project progress for the third quarter of 2026. At its Trion deepwater oilfield in the Gulf of Mexico, 10 of the 24 planned subsea wells have been drilled, and the first subsea tree has been installed. As of September 30, overall project completion at the oilfield had reached 71%. Subsea production equipment and the disconnectable turret mooring buoy have arrived in Mexico, and offshore installation operations have officially commenced. The project is scheduled to achieve first oil in 2028.

The 10 development wells are being drilled by Transocean's "Deepwater Thalassa" deepwater drillship. The vessel entered Mexican waters in March 2026 and began drilling operations. All 24 wells are planned to be tied back to the "Tláloc" floating production unit. The unit is designed with a crude oil processing capacity of approximately 100,000 barrels per day, and its construction is 96% complete. Equipment integration and pre-commissioning are currently underway.

While subsea works progress, hull construction and systems integration continue on the "Chalchi" floating storage and offloading (FSO) vessel, and the disconnectable turret mooring system has been integrated with the hull. The FSO is designed with a storage capacity of 950,000 barrels and is planned to operate in water depths of approximately 2,300 meters, receiving processed crude oil from the floating production unit and undertaking offshore storage and export duties.

The Trion oilfield is located in Mexican waters of the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 180 kilometers off the Mexican coast. Woodside Energy holds a 60% interest and serves as operator, while Pemex holds the remaining 40%. Woodside stated that the project continues to advance within the approved budget, with the first oil target maintained for 2028.
