en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 21, Australian packaging manufacturer Visy announced that it had completed an AUD 30 million equipment investment at its Smithfield corrugated board plant in Western Sydney, New South Wales, adding a new 2.8-meter-wide corrugated board production line that increases the plant's board output capacity by 33%. The new equipment is equipped with real-time production monitoring and digital process optimization systems and has been integrated into the plant's production system, primarily producing corrugated board packaging materials for the agricultural, food and beverage industries.

The new equipment uses a continuous corrugated board processing technique, heating and pressing paper into a corrugated structure and bonding it to liner paper, then cutting it into board. Real-time monitoring and digital process optimization technologies are used during production to shorten equipment changeover times, increase continuous production speeds, and improve the strength, flatness and quality consistency of the finished board. The products can be fed into high-speed carton packaging lines or used to manufacture shelf-ready display packaging.

The Smithfield plant is Visy's integrated recycling and packaging manufacturing site in New South Wales. The site houses two paper mills using 100% recycled raw materials, corrugated carton manufacturing facilities, a plastic recycling plant, and a materials recovery facility. The new equipment is installed at the corrugated board production stage and connects with the site's existing recycled paper manufacturing and carton processing operations. The site employs more than 400 full-time staff.

Visy operates 18 corrugated carton production facilities across Australia and New Zealand, using locally manufactured kraft paper and 100% recycled paper as raw materials. The Smithfield plant has been continuously engaged in carton production for more than 40 years, serving customers including agricultural growers, food manufacturers and beverage producers. The newly added equipment is an upgrade to the existing plant's production line and does not involve building a separate carton plant.
