Dubai, UAE Awards AED 3 Billion Stormwater Drainage Network Contracts

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 25, Dubai Municipality announced the official award of four construction contracts under Phase 3 of the Tasreef stormwater drainage system expansion plan, with a total value of AED 3 billion (approximately USD 817 million). The works will construct and expand approximately 100 kilometers of stormwater drainage networks, with a maximum pipe diameter of 3 meters, covering approximately 100 square kilometers of residential, commercial, and industrial areas. Companies under China State Construction Engineering Corporation participated in the contracting for these works, which involve multiple urban districts including Jumeirah, Al Quoz, and Al Barsha.
The four projects are distributed across different areas of Dubai. Among them, the Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim drainage network project is the largest in scale, involving the construction of approximately 42 kilometers of main stormwater pipelines, covering Umm Suqeim 1 to 3, Jumeirah 3, Al Safa 1 to 2, and Al Manara. The project between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road involves the construction of approximately 14 kilometers of main pipelines, serving Al Quoz Industrial Areas 1, 3, and 4 and Al Barsha 1, and connecting drainage facilities along major surrounding roads.
The Al Wasl Road drainage project will construct approximately 21 kilometers of main and branch networks along the east side of the Dubai Canal, covering approximately 25 square kilometers in Zabeel 2, Al Wasl, Jumeirah 1 to 2, Al Badaa, Al Satwa, and the area around the Dubai World Trade Centre. Another project located in Al Marmoom will construct 23 kilometers of stormwater drainage facilities to connect to the existing urban drainage system. The four contract packages will be implemented separately and connected to Dubai's existing main drainage network.
This batch of works was awarded to contractors including China State Construction Engineering Corporation Middle East, as well as local contractors Arifco Group, Detech Contracting, and Nael Construction & Contracting. Public project information shows that the relevant section undertaken by China State Construction involves the construction of the drainage network between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, spanning approximately 14 kilometers. The contract values of individual sections should be distinguished from the total award amount of AED 3 billion.
The Tasreef stormwater drainage system has a total planned investment of AED 30 billion and is expected to be fully completed by 2033. Dubai Municipality has stated that upon completion of all works, the city's stormwater drainage capacity will increase by 700%, and costs related to pumping station construction and network operation and maintenance are expected to decrease by 20%. These targets correspond to the entire Tasreef program and are not individual construction indicators for these four contracts.
