Norway's DeepOcean Awarded Jubilee Field Riser Modification Contract in Ghana

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 28, Norwegian subsea engineering services provider DeepOcean was awarded a contract by Tullow Ghana, a subsidiary of UK-based Tullow Oil, for the modification of gas lift risers at the Jubilee field in Ghana. The scope covers disconnection, re-termination, and reconnection of the risers connecting the "Kwame Nkrumah" floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel to the subsea production system. Offshore construction is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026, deploying the subsea construction vessel "Orient Adventurer."

The Jubilee field is located approximately 60 kilometers off the coast of Ghana, in water depths of about 1,100 meters. The "Kwame Nkrumah" FPSO handles crude oil processing and associated gas processing for the field, with a crude oil processing capacity of more than 120,000 barrels per day. The project targets the gas lift risers between the FPSO and the subsea production system. Contract work includes engineering design, disconnection of the existing risers, deck-side reconnection work, riser reinstallation, and pre-commissioning prior to startup.

The "Orient Adventurer," responsible for offshore construction, was formerly named "Polar Onyx" and has recently completed an upgrade and rejoined the DeepOcean fleet. The vessel is equipped with a 2,500-tonne sub-deck pipe and cable carousel and a refurbished Huisman vertical lay system (VLS), the latter with a dynamic top tension capacity of 275 tonnes. Under the construction plan, the risers will be deployed through the vessel's moonpool, with the vertical lay system handling the corresponding riser handling and lowering operations.

The contract will be executed by DeepOcean Ghana Limited, a joint venture between DeepOcean and local Ghanaian partners. DeepOcean's Europe, Middle East and Africa business team is responsible for project management and engineering, with teams in Accra, Ghana and Sète, France participating in implementation, and engineering specialists in Aberdeen, UK providing technical support. The scope of work covers offshore disconnection, deck re-termination, reconnection, and pre-commissioning.
