Chinese-built 22,000-tonne floating dock commissioned at the Port of Tenerife, Spain
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On November 2, the 22,000-tonne lifting capacity floating dock "Hidramar Ultra," built by Shanghai Huarun Dadong Dockyard Co., Ltd. for Spain's Hidramar Group, completed its first vessel docking operation at the Port of Tenerife, Spain, and was officially put into operation. The first vessel to dock was the bulk carrier "Ocean Crown." The entire sinking, floating and lifting process was smooth, and all performance indicators met the requirements.

"Hidramar Ultra" has an overall length of 240 meters, a width of 48 meters, a pontoon height of 4.7 meters and a lifting capacity of 22,000 tonnes, and is classed by Lloyd's Register (LR). These dimensions enable it to undertake dry-docking repair works for mainstream vessel types such as Panamax bulk carriers, container ships and small-to-medium-sized oil tankers, rather than being limited to the maintenance of small vessels only. The docking of "Ocean Crown" verified the floating dock's sinking and floating control, lifting capacity and structural stability under real vessel loads, rather than merely the static parameters at the time of delivery.
The construction cycle and delivery milestones of the project had been completed earlier. On November 14, 2024, the floating dock construction contract signed between Hidramar Group and Huarun Dadong took effect; on January 22, 2025, the project commenced; on August 10, 2025, keel laying and block erection began, and on August 13, the pontoon hull was fully joined up; on August 20, the main hull was fully completed; on August 29, structural and compartment tightness tests were completed; on September 4, underwater works and outer hull painting were completed; on November 26, 2025, the naming ceremony was held, and on December 30, a key closed loop was achieved for the main structure and core equipment functions; on February 14, 2026, after completing construction and commissioning at Huarun Dadong, the floating dock set sail and, via the South China Sea, the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea, the Suez Canal and the Mediterranean, was wet-towed to the Port of Tenerife.
