Air Transat to Launch Montreal–Faro Route in June 2027
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 30, Faro Airport in Portugal announced that Air Transat will launch a direct Montreal–Faro route on June 14, 2027, operating one weekly flight (Monday) until October 25, 2027, with the Airbus A321LR. Flight number TS432 departs Montreal at 19:25 and arrives in Faro at 06:45 the following day.

The A321LR has a maximum range of approximately 4,000 nautical miles (about 7,400 kilometers), while the straight-line distance between Montreal and Faro is about 5,300 kilometers, well within its range margin. Faro Airport has a single runway 2,490 meters long and primarily handles narrowbody aircraft; some widebody aircraft cannot operate at the airport due to takeoff and landing distance requirements. As a narrowbody aircraft, the A321LR can operate on the 2,490-meter runway, enabling Air Transat to launch the route without replacing its widebody fleet or relying on the A330.
Air Transat's A321LR features a two-class, 199-seat layout, with 12 Club Class seats and 187 economy seats. The aircraft has fewer seats than its A330 and is suited to a low-frequency, seasonal route operating once a week. Previously, there were no direct flights between Montreal and Faro; passengers had to connect via Lisbon, Madrid, or the Azores, with travel times of more than about 9 hours. Air Transat's once-weekly direct flight offers a nonstop option, but its frequency means it is positioned more as a seasonal service catering to visiting friends and relatives and vacation traffic between Quebec and the Algarve.
Air Transat already operates Montreal–Lisbon and Montreal–Porto. Faro itself is not a new destination either: Air Transat already operates a year-round Toronto–Faro route, which is scheduled to offer approximately 37,000 seats in both directions in summer 2027. The Montreal route is an increment built on the existing Portugal network and the Toronto–Faro route, rather than opening a market from scratch.
