en.Wedoany.com Reported - On November 3, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, via video link, officially inaugurated Pune Metro Line 3 and laid the foundation stone for four new lines of Pune Metro Phase II. The total investment involved in the projects is approximately INR 2,180 billion, of which the construction investment for Line 3 exceeds INR 83 billion, and Phase II is expected to involve an investment of INR 135 billion. Line 3 connects the Maan area of Pune with the Shivajinagar District Court Station, linking the Hinjawadi IT Park with the city core area; Phase II will add four new lines—2A, 2B, 4, and 4A—further expanding the metro network coverage.

Pune Metro Line 3, also known as the Pink Line, has a total length of approximately 23 km with 23 stations. It is a fully elevated line connecting Maan with the Shivajinagar District Court Station and passes through the Hinjawadi IT Park along the way. The total project investment is approximately INR 831.3 billion, adopting a public-private partnership (PPP) model, with the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) responsible for project development and Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited, a joint venture between Tata Group and Siemens, responsible for implementation. The line connects with Pune's existing Metro Line 1 and Line 2 at the Shivajinagar District Court Station, allowing passengers to transfer into the existing urban rail transit network.

The inauguration ceremony for the line was held on November 3, and passenger services began on November 4. In the initial phase, 17 of the 23 stations are open, with the remaining 6 to be opened in stages—2 are expected to be completed before the end of November 2026, and the other 4 are planned to be gradually put into operation before January 2027. The project is expected to serve approximately 200,000 to 250,000 passenger trips per day, focusing on commuter traffic serving the Hinjawadi IT Park and areas along the line including Baner, Balewadi, Aundh, and Shivajinagar.

Pune Metro Phase II is expected to involve an investment of INR 135 billion and includes four new lines. Among them, Line 2A connects Vanaz with Chandani Chowk, and Line 2B connects Ramwadi with Vitthalwadi, with the two lines totaling approximately 12.75 km; Line 4 connects Kharadi with Kadakwasla, with a total length of approximately 25.52 km; Line 4A connects Nal Station with Manikbaug, with a total length of approximately 6.12 km. The four lines have a combined planned length of approximately 44.39 km.

The Phase II lines will further connect residential areas, commercial areas, and employment centers in eastern, southern, and western Pune. Line 4 will cover areas including Kharadi, Magarpatta, Hadapsar, Swargate, and Kadakwasla, while Line 4A extends toward Manikbaug. Line 2B will extend the existing eastbound metro network to Vitthalwadi, improving rail transit connectivity in residential and commercial areas such as Kharadi and Wagholi.
