en.Wedoany.com Reported - On November 5, German independent power producer Tion Renewables announced that it has completed the upgrade and retrofit of three operational PV plants in Italy. By replacing the original fixed-tilt mounting structures with solar trackers and installing new PV modules, the total installed capacity of the three plants has been increased by nearly 40%. The retrofitted plants are expected to generate approximately 7 million kWh of electricity annually, and the project has now entered the completion stage.

The three PV plants are located in the Veneto region in northern Italy and the Basilicata region in southern Italy, respectively. The original facilities were commissioned in 2011 and 2012. This retrofit utilized the existing plant sites and grid connection facilities to carry out equipment upgrades, increasing the installed capacity of the PV systems while maintaining the original land use footprint and grid connection conditions.

After completing the equipment replacement, the three plants will continue to be eligible for the original feed-in tariff subsidy mechanism and will continue to receive generation revenue under the existing tariff arrangements for years to come. Tion Renewables also expects that the newly installed PV modules and tracking systems will extend the operational lifespan of the plants beyond the effective period of the existing subsidy mechanism.

Ingmar Helmke, CEO of Tion Renewables, stated that the retrofit was implemented by the company's Spanish team. The project is part of the company's existing renewable energy asset upgrade program, which focuses on technical upgrades to operational PV plants through measures such as equipment replacement, system upgrades, and operational optimization.
