en.Wedoany.com Reported - On November 5, Danish renewable energy developer European Energy held a commissioning ceremony for the Mulwala Solar Farm in New South Wales, Australia. The project has an installed capacity of 31 MW and is located in the Riverina region of the state. It has now completed commissioning and reached full-load operation. The electricity generated by the plant is primarily supplied to data center operator AirTrunk through a long-term power purchase agreement, with the remaining electricity fed into the New South Wales grid. The project also plans to build a supporting 25 MW, 100 MWh battery energy storage system.

The Mulwala Solar Farm is located approximately 2 kilometers north of the town of Mulwala. The project site covers a total area of 215 hectares, of which about one-third is used for installing photovoltaic modules, while the remaining land is retained for cattle grazing. The plant is designed to generate approximately 66 million kWh annually and connects to the Australian National Electricity Market through existing local distribution infrastructure.

Construction of the project began in September 2025, with major construction and energization completed in March 2026, followed by the grid-connection commissioning phase. During construction, more than 40,000 work hours were accumulated, and more than 50,000 solar modules and nearly 7,000 support piles were installed. The project created more than 250 local jobs, with a peak of 73 on-site construction workers per day.

Following this commissioning, the majority of the Mulwala plant's generation will be supplied to AirTrunk under the long-term power purchase arrangement. Google also participated in the project's clean energy partnership, with the relevant arrangement first announced in 2023, aimed at procuring new renewable electricity for data centers and digital infrastructure.

European Energy plans to add a 25 MW power, 100 MWh capacity battery energy storage system at the plant. This energy storage facility is part of the project's subsequent development plan and will be implemented separately from the already officially operational 31 MW photovoltaic generation facility. Catriona McLeod, the company's head of Australian operations, confirmed that the project has completed the development, construction, energization, and commissioning phases and is currently supplying electricity to the New South Wales grid.
