Sweden's Atlas Copco Adds 23,000 m² of Compressor Manufacturing Facilities in the US and South Korea

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Swedish industrial equipment manufacturer Atlas Copco Group has completed the expansion and commissioning of two compressor manufacturing facilities in New York State, USA, and Busan, South Korea. The US project adds approximately 5,900 m² of production space, while the new plant in South Korea adds approximately 17,000 m² of facility space, bringing the combined new manufacturing space at the two locations to approximately 23,000 m². The added capacity is primarily intended to expand manufacturing capabilities for centrifugal compressors, oil-free gas screw compressors and turboexpanders, serving markets including liquefied natural gas, petrochemicals and industrial gases.

The US expansion project is located in Voorheesville, New York, and was implemented by the Group's Atlas Copco Comptec. A commissioning ceremony for the expanded plant was held on October 26. The new building features a high-bay structure equipped with multiple cranes, lifting devices and upgraded equipment testing facilities, along with expanded logistics and warehousing space. Following the expansion, the plant can design, manufacture, test and deliver larger integrally geared centrifugal compressors and turboexpanders locally in the United States, and the site's workforce is expected to grow to approximately 340 employees.

The South Korean project is located in the Eco Delta Industrial Park in Myeongji-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan, and was implemented by Atlas Copco Gas and Process Korea. The new plant was commissioned in October and is the third production facility of this business in South Korea. The new facility covers approximately 17,000 m², and the company reports that its operating capacity has more than doubled compared with before. The expanded business will cover product lines beyond the existing marine LNG centrifugal compressors and oil-free gas screw compressors.

Construction of the South Korean plant began in January 2026. According to the construction plan disclosed by the company at the time, the new facility was to include approximately 10,530 m² of production area and 2,560 m² of office space, with plans to introduce lifting equipment of up to 60 tonnes and to expand manufacturing capacity for boil-off gas compressors used in LNG carriers. The new plant was also planned to produce gas compressors for air separation and nitrogen reliquefaction systems. The relevant capacity and equipment parameters pertain to the earlier construction plan; actual commissioning is subject to the facility start-up milestone disclosed in this announcement.
