en.Wedoany.com Reported - On November 4, China's ZTE Corporation and Ethio Telecom completed the country's first pre-commercial deployment of AIR RAN, an AI-powered radio access network. According to performance test results published by ZTE, compared with traditional network solutions, the adoption of AI optimization technology increased the capacity of the existing 4G network by 11% and improved user throughput during peak hours by 40%. The deployment uses ZTE's AIREngine intelligent computing engine and intelligent beam scheduling technology and has entered the pre-commercial verification stage.

The deployment is based on frequency division duplex (FDD) massive multiple-input multiple-output (Massive MIMO) technology and introduces an AI-driven beam scheduling mechanism into the existing radio access network. The AIREngine intelligent computing engine adjusts radio resource allocation according to changes in network traffic demand, improving capacity and data transmission performance on the existing 4G network.

The test data published by ZTE includes two independent performance indicators: 4G network capacity increased by 11% compared with traditional solutions, and user throughput during peak hours increased by 40%. The performance comparison uses traditional radio network solutions as the benchmark, and the test target is the pre-commercial network adopting AIR RAN technology.

ZTE and Ethio Telecom have continued AI radio network technology cooperation over the past two years, focusing on exploring the introduction of intelligent scheduling technology on the basis of existing FDD Massive MIMO equipment. This pre-commercial deployment advances the previous technical cooperation to actual network application verification and has produced two performance test results for capacity and throughput.

The deployment is incorporated into Ethio Telecom's "Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028" strategy. The operator is advancing the construction of AI-native networks and the upgrading of communications infrastructure. As one of its radio access network optimization projects, the AIR RAN solution has completed the first phase of pre-commercial deployment.
