Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 31, San Diego–based Unigrid has announced a major expansion of its battery production, increasing capacity to 100 MWh per year—a tenfold rise from previous levels. The company also plans to achieve another tenfold increase by 2026 through contract manufacturing using a network of battery foundries.

Speaking to ESS News, Unigrid explained that the foundry-based approach allows the company to scale production rapidly without the significant capital investment required to build its own factory. This strategy provides flexibility in meeting growing demand across multiple markets.

Unigrid’s batteries use sodium-ion chemistry and serve both stationary energy storage and e-mobility applications. The products are certified under UN 38.3 and UL 9540A standards, ensuring compliance with international safety and performance requirements.

The company emphasized that the expansion positions it to meet accelerating demand for sustainable energy solutions while maintaining cost efficiency. By leveraging partner foundries, Unigrid can quickly adjust production volumes, accelerate delivery timelines, and expand its market reach globally.

This capacity growth comes amid increasing interest in sodium-ion batteries, which offer advantages such as lower cost, enhanced safety, and longer lifecycle compared with conventional lithium-ion alternatives. Unigrid’s scalable production model allows it to supply both utility-scale energy storage projects and emerging e-mobility applications efficiently.

Unigrid’s approach highlights the potential for modular, foundry-based manufacturing to support rapid growth in the energy storage sector. The company aims to meet both domestic and international market requirements while adhering to strict safety and certification standards.

With the planned 2026 expansion, Unigrid expects to supply multiple gigawatt-hours of batteries annually, positioning itself as a significant player in the global energy storage industry. This move supports broader trends in electrification, renewable energy integration, and decarbonization efforts across stationary and transport sectors.

By combining high production flexibility, certified safety standards, and focus on emerging sodium-ion technology, Unigrid is preparing to address the growing demand for sustainable, reliable, and scalable battery solutions in a competitive global market.
