Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 13, Dow has announced that its isocyanates manufacturing facility in Freeport, Texas, US, has earned International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS certification, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainable production and supply chain transparency in North America.
The certification allows all isocyanate products from the Freeport facility to be offered with bio-based materials from Dow’s Ecolibrium™ portfolio through a mass balance approach. This method uses alternative feedstocks derived from bio-circular materials at the start of Dow’s integrated manufacturing process. Customers benefit from products with the same quality while gaining enhanced sustainability features and a reduced carbon footprint.
Chris Breeck, TXO Plant and Production Leader at Dow, said: “Achieving ISCC PLUS certification at our Freeport MDI Complex marks a significant milestone for Dow. It validates our commitment to credible sustainability practices and strengthens supply chain traceability, advancing our journey to deliver more sustainable products to our customers.”
The ISCC PLUS certification applies to a range of products in Dow’s North America portfolio, including:
PAPI™ 580N REN Polymeric MDI for polyiso insulation boards and insulated metal panels.
PAPI™ 23 REN for furniture and mattress foams.
SPECFLEX™ NES 1540 REN for automotive noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) solutions.
ISONATE™ 143L REN Modified MDI for coatings, adhesives, sealants, and elastomer formulations.
By integrating bio-circular feedstocks, Dow ensures that these products offer sustainability benefits while maintaining performance standards. The mass balance certification provides verified traceability of sustainable inputs throughout the supply chain, giving customers confidence in the environmental credentials of the products they use.
The Freeport MDI Complex certification also positions Dow to expand its sustainable offerings over time as additional alternative feedstocks become available in North America. This development aligns with Dow’s broader strategy to deliver innovative solutions that support the transition to more sustainable industrial practices and reduce environmental impact across its operations and product lines.
Through this initiative, Dow demonstrates its commitment to advancing the circular economy and providing customers with solutions that balance high performance, sustainability, and reliability, supporting the growing demand for environmentally responsible materials in diverse industries across North America.
