Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 25, Magnum Ice Cream Company, Unilever's ice cream division, is preparing for its independent listing on the Amsterdam stock exchange on December 8. The newly formed entity will operate as a dedicated ice cream business featuring brands such as Magnum, Ben & Jerry's, Solero, and Viennetta.
Ahead of the separation, Magnum announced a £50 million ($66 million) investment in its Gloucester factory in western England, part of a broader €350–380 million ($403–438 million) program to modernize production and supply chain infrastructure. The Gloucester facility, which currently manufactures 600 million units annually, will see capacity increase by 50 percent from 2023 levels by 2027.
Sandeep Desai, Magnum's chief supply chain officer, told: "We are focused on ice cream and ice cream only. Everyone wakes up thinking, how can I make more ice cream? How can I sell more ice cream? And that gives a very different level of focus."
The company acknowledges that the growing use of GLP-1 weight-loss medications may influence consumer behavior but remains confident in continued demand for indulgent treats.
Desai added: "Whilst GLP-1 is not a factor we can ignore, (ice cream) is still always an indulgent snack."
To address evolving preferences, Magnum is expanding its portfolio with hydration-focused and higher-protein options, alongside existing lower-sugar products and smaller portion sizes.
Jamie Farrell, head of UK & Ireland for Magnum, stated: "We see it as a challenge. Can we create... more new products that move with the times?"
On supply chain resilience, Desai noted that local production in key markets, including the United States, has limited exposure to recent trade measures. Any cost impact from tariffs has remained in the tens of millions rather than hundreds of millions of dollars.
The upcoming listing will allow Magnum to concentrate exclusively on the ice cream category, enabling specialized commodity hedging, enhanced operational focus, and targeted innovation to meet changing consumer needs while maintaining its position in the premium indulgence segment.
