Wedoany.com Report-Dec.3, Arkema has secured ISCC PLUS certification for its speciality polyester resins produced at the Gissi plant in Italy. The accreditation applies the mass-balance approach, enabling the company to incorporate bio-attributed and recycled feedstocks into products while maintaining identical performance characteristics.

The company notes that bio-attributed content represents the share of biobased or recycled feedstock allocated under the ISCC PLUS framework.

With the Gissi facility now certified, all of Arkema's advanced liquid resins production sites worldwide hold ISCC PLUS status. The network includes plants in Grand Rapids (Michigan, USA), North Kansas City (Missouri, USA), Mollet del Vallès (Spain), Sant Celoni (Italy), Navi Mumbai (India), Pasir Gudang (Malaysia), and Zwickau (Germany).

The certification allows customers in construction adhesives, flexible packaging, automotive components, and various industrial applications to gradually increase the share of renewable or recycled content in polyurethane systems without reformulating existing specifications.

Under the mass-balance system, certified sustainable raw materials entering the production process are tracked throughout manufacturing. An equivalent volume is then allocated to finished resins, ensuring transparent attribution of bio-attributed content through documented bookkeeping.

The Gissi accreditation extends Arkema's ongoing sustainability programme across its entire coatings solutions portfolio, which already encompasses high-solids resins, waterborne technologies, UV/LED/EB-curable systems, and polyester powder coatings.

Franck Charrier, Global Business Director for Advanced Liquid and Powder Resins at Arkema, commented: "This announcement marks a considerable milestone for Arkema as all of our advanced liquid resins facilities worldwide, acrylics, polyesters, alkyds and polyamides, are now ISCC PLUS certified. The certification in Gissi brings us closer to our overall target to improve how products are made and support industry-wide goals related to carbon footprint reduction."

The achievement strengthens Arkema's ability to supply certified sustainable resins globally, meeting growing demand from brand owners and converters seeking verifiable progress toward lower environmental impact.

In 2024, Arkema recorded sales of €9.5 billion and operated in 55 countries with a workforce of 21,150 employees. The company continues to expand its range of certified materials as part of a broader commitment to provide practical solutions that combine performance with reduced reliance on fossil-based resources.

Customers can now source ISCC PLUS-certified speciality polyester resins from the Gissi site for immediate integration into existing formulations, supporting steady advancement along individual sustainability roadmaps across multiple end-use sectors.
