Wedoany.com Report-Dec.4, Beetaloo Energy Australia has received federal approval to amend the exploration deed for its EP187 permit in Australia's Northern Territory, allowing the company to sell and beneficially use gas produced from the site.
Beetaloo Energy is required to seek further approval from the NT Government to sell gas from the pilot project for the beneficial use of test gas.
The approval, granted on December 2, 2025 under subsection 27(3) of the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976, follows consent from the traditional owners of the Mambaliya Rrumburriya Wuyaliya Aboriginal Land Trust (June 25, 2025) and endorsement by the Northern Land Council's Executive Council.
The amendment enables Beetaloo Energy to continue appraisal activities and supply gas to the Northern Territory market under an existing agreement with the NT Government, while generating royalty benefits for the region.
Managing Director Alex Underwood stated: "This Federal Ministerial approval is a critical step in the process to seek final NT Government approval for beneficial use of test gas from EP187, as required under section 57AAA of the Petroleum Act 1984 (NT)."
In June 2025, Beetaloo Energy commenced hydraulic stimulation of the Carpentaria-5H (C-5H) horizontal well, performed by Halliburton. The well forms part of the three-well Carpentaria pilot project (C-2H, C-3H, and C-5H), all drilled from a single pad to reduce surface footprint and optimise costs.
The pilot programme is designed to establish a long-term production-type curve that will guide future field development decisions.
Beetaloo Energy will now seek final approval from the Northern Territory Government to sell gas produced during testing for beneficial use. The successful amendment and ongoing pilot work mark important progress toward potential commercial development of the Beetaloo Sub-basin's substantial shale gas resources while maintaining agreements with traditional owners and supporting regional economic benefits.
