Heerema completes nearly 95,000-tonne offshore installation for Aker BP
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 4, Heerema Marine Contractors confirmed the completion of a five-year offshore installation campaign for Aker BP's Yggdrasil and Valhall PWP-Fenris developments. The final phase involved the semi-submersible crane vessel Sleipnir installing the Valhall Production and Wellhead Platform (PWP) topside and flare tower, with the PWP topside weighing over 16,500 tonnes, making it the second-largest structure ever lifted and installed by Sleipnir. The topside was installed in August 2026, followed by the installation of the PWP flare tower.

This offshore execution program, initiated in 2024, has transported and installed nearly 95,000 tonnes of offshore structures in total. During the three-year offshore campaign, Heerema installed 4 lifted jackets, 1 launched jacket, 56 piles, 1 pre-drilling module, 2 pre-drilling platform decks, 1 bridge, 4 topsides, 2 flare structures, and multiple smaller offshore structures. The first installation was the Fenris jacket in June 2024, followed by the Hugin A and Munin jackets in 2025; in 2026, the Hugin B jacket, Hugin B topside, Munin topside, and flare structures were completed.

The Valhall PWP-Fenris development includes a new production and wellhead platform connected by a bridge to the existing Valhall field center, as well as the unmanned Fenris platform located approximately 50 kilometers away. The PWP features 24 well slots, with 24 wells planned for the project—19 at Valhall PWP and 5 at Fenris. Estimated additional recoverable reserves are approximately 260 million barrels of oil equivalent, with production start-up planned for 2027.
The Yggdrasil development includes the Hugin A central processing platform, the Munin unmanned production platform, the Hugin B wellhead platform, as well as 10 subsea templates, pipelines, and umbilicals, with 57 wells planned. Aker BP serves as the project operator, with Equinor and ORLEN Upstream Norway participating in the relevant licenses. The project holds approximately 700 million barrels of oil equivalent in recoverable resources, with production scheduled to begin in 2027.
