World's First Fully Electric Large-Scale FPSO Hull Completed

en.Wedoany.com Reported - The hull of the large floating production storage and offloading unit P-84, built by CIMC Group for Petrobras, was completed on September 3 in Yantai, Shandong Province. This is the world's first large-scale FPSO adopting a fully electric design, and also the largest single FPSO hull project undertaken by a domestic shipyard to date.

Floating production storage and offloading units, abbreviated as FPSOs, are vividly described as "offshore oil processing plants" and serve as core high-end equipment for developing deep-sea oil and gas resources. The P-84 hull completed this time has a total length of 345.3 meters, a width of 64.8 meters, a molded depth of 34.3 meters, and a total hull weight exceeding 100,000 tons; its natural gas processing capacity reaches 10 million cubic meters per day, and its crude oil storage capacity amounts to 2 million barrels.

Luo Xi, Project Manager of CIMC Raffles P-84 FPSO: The P-84 project is exceptionally large in scale, with a daily crude oil production of 225,000 barrels, making it also the largest project in Petrobras's history.

P-84 is the world's first large-scale FPSO adopting a fully electric architecture, complemented by a series of low-carbon technologies including zero routine flaring, waste heat recovery, and deep-sea water cooling. Leveraging the fully electric configuration and optimized production process systems, the platform's greenhouse gas emission intensity per barrel of oil equivalent produced will be reduced by approximately 30%, making it one of the most energy-efficient platforms in the world.

Once the project is fully completed, it will be deployed in the pre-salt ultra-deepwater oilfield in the Santos Basin, Brazil. The successful completion of the P-84 hull represents a significant breakthrough in fully electric FPSO construction technology, marking the accelerated advancement of China's shipbuilding industry into the fields of high-end offshore engineering equipment and high-value-added vessel manufacturing.
