en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 28, India's Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) planned to invest INR 6 billion (approximately USD 63.1 million) to build a heating unit at the Ratnagiri liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Maharashtra, with completion scheduled for June 2027. The unit will provide a heat source for regasification of cryogenic LNG, enabling the terminal to restore its design capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum. Currently, the terminal operates at approximately 50% of its design capacity.

R. K. Singhal, Director of Business Development at GAIL, said at an industry event in Goa, India, that the Ratnagiri terminal previously used waste heat from a power plant operated by another company to regasify LNG. Since that power plant has ceased operation, the terminal has lost its original heat source, and the absence of the heating unit has also constrained the throughput of the existing facility.

GAIL is concurrently building a small captive power plant to provide the heat required for LNG vaporization at the terminal. Both the new heating facility and the captive power plant serve the regasification operations of the existing terminal, with the construction focus on restoring the throughput of existing facilities rather than adding a new 5 million tonnes per annum LNG terminal.
