Wedoany.com Report-Dec.16, Uniper has initiated the process to divest its 20% stake in the regulated OPAL gas pipeline, in line with the European Commission's state aid approval decision dated 20 December 2022.
The scope of the transaction includes the full transfer of shares in Lubmin-Brandov Assets GmbH & Co. KG (“LBA KG”), which owns the 20% fractional interest in OPAL. The remaining 80% is owned by GASCADE Gastransport GmbH.
OPAL represents one of Europe's major transmission routes, extending approximately 740 km from Lubmin in Germany to Brandov in the Czech Republic. Within Germany's Hydrogen Core Network initiative, the conversion of the northern segment to hydrogen compatibility was finalized in mid-December 2025, while the southern segment is scheduled for completion by the end of 2030.
Potential buyers are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest, in either German or English, via email to the designated contact by no later than 23:59 CET on 29 January 2026. Submissions should include the interested party's name, address, and contact information, along with details of responsible individuals for the process and any appointed financial advisers.
Expressions received after the deadline or deemed incomplete may not be considered.
Upon receiving a valid Expression of Interest, Uniper will supply qualifying parties with a teaser document and a process letter outlining subsequent steps and criteria for the pre-qualification stage. The overall bidding procedure will be conducted in an open, equitable, and transparent manner.
