KOGAS Signs Technical Cooperation MOU with American Petroleum Institute to Participate in International Hydrogen and Natural Gas Standard Development
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 3, the Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) signed a Technical Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding with the American Petroleum Institute (API) in Daegu, South Korea, covering the development and revision of technical standards in hydrogen, low-carbon energy, and natural gas, as well as personnel training, certification, and technical knowledge exchange. The two parties have begun implementing the agreement, with KOGAS having nominated 11 experts across different technical fields to participate in API standards committees and established an internal coordination mechanism.

Under the agreement, KOGAS will participate in the development and revision of API technical standards and further explore cooperation on API certification programs. API currently maintains more than 800 technical standards and conducts certification and training activities. The two parties will subsequently expand cooperation in standards development and technical exchange in natural gas, hydrogen, and other low-carbon energy technologies.
The technical scope of KOGAS's participation in standards cooperation is directly related to its existing natural gas and hydrogen facilities. The company currently operates 57 hydrogen refueling stations for transportation and 2 regional hydrogen production bases, and is building another hydrogen production base in Pyeongtaek. The company is also conducting hydrogen supply technology validation using its existing nationwide natural gas pipeline network, and is testing hydrogen blending safety through South Korea's first hydrogen blending test facility for natural gas pipelines.
KOGAS stated that it will incorporate technologies accumulated in the design, construction, and operation of natural gas and hydrogen infrastructure into subsequent standards cooperation. API and KOGAS will also continue to explore cooperation on certification programs and expand the scope of Korean technical personnel's participation in the development and revision of standards related to natural gas, hydrogen, and low-carbon energy.
