en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 24, Egypt's Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and U.S. company Chevron announced the drilling results of the Nargis-2 natural gas appraisal well in the Mediterranean Sea. The well was drilled to a total depth of more than 5,000 meters. The appraisal results show a maximum net gas pay thickness of 35 meters, confirming that the gas-bearing reservoir discovered by the earlier Nargis-1 well extends outward, while also identifying an additional gas-bearing interval with favorable reservoir properties. Chevron operates the well, and the project is currently in the natural gas resource appraisal phase.

The Nargis-2 well was spudded in May 2026 using the Stena Forth drillship, executed by Chevron together with its joint venture partners and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS). The drilling objectives included appraising the extent of the Nargis gas reservoir discovered in 2022 and testing deeper geological horizons, with exploration targets involving high-temperature, high-pressure formations.

The gas-bearing interval data obtained from this drilling will be used to further evaluate the resource scale and development conditions of the Nargis discovery. Chevron serves as the operator of the offshore block, with partners including Italy's Eni, the UAE's Mubadala Energy, and Egypt's Tharwa Petroleum. Subsequent technical work will continue to assess the gas reservoir extent, resource potential, and commercial development options.
