Wedoany.com Report-Dec.21, Hitachi Energy UK has signed a memorandum of understanding with Omexom to accelerate the deployment of high-voltage grid connections across the United Kingdom through joint delivery of Integrated GIS Applications (IGA) for substation infrastructure.
The agreement combines Hitachi Energy's grid technologies expertise with Omexom's EPC services.
The collaboration focuses on supporting major electricity projects, including grid connections for renewable energy developments, data centres, and other critical installations. By combining Hitachi Energy's advanced grid technology capabilities with Omexom's established experience in engineering, procurement, and construction for transmission and distribution networks, the partnership seeks to streamline project execution.
The approach emphasizes standardized, modular substation designs that facilitate quicker installation, greater operational efficiency, and reduced on-site complexities.
"We are excited to collaborate with Hitachi Energy on projects that will shape the future of the UK's transmission and distribution network. Together, we aim to bring efficiency, reliability, and sustainability to every stage of project delivery," said Andy Roach, business development director at Omexom UK.
Hitachi Energy's IGA offerings incorporate EconiQ solutions featuring SF6-free technologies, designed to lower environmental footprint while contributing to the nation's energy transition goals.
"This collaboration strengthens our ability to deliver high-voltage solutions that accelerate the UK's energy transition. By combining Hitachi Energy's technology leadership with Omexom's delivery expertise, we can offer customers a streamlined approach to grid connections that meets both technical and regulatory requirements," said Carlos Gisbert, UK market manager at Hitachi Energy.
Both parties have reaffirmed their dedication to innovative practices and sustainable outcomes through this agreement. The MoU establishes a framework for coordinated efforts on upcoming projects, enabling more responsive and scalable infrastructure development to meet growing electricity demands.
The initiative addresses the need for rapid expansion of reliable grid capacity, particularly as renewable sources and new load centres continue to emerge. Modular solutions allow for factory-preassembled components, minimizing construction timelines and enhancing quality control.
Hitachi Energy maintains a strong presence in high-voltage equipment and digital grid solutions, while Omexom brings extensive local execution knowledge. Their combined strengths position them to provide integrated turnkey options for network operators and developers.
In July 2025, Hitachi Energy secured a separate contract valued at up to 700 million dollars with German network operator E.ON to supply transformers aimed at improving grid security, resilience, and cost-effectiveness in Germany.
This UK partnership reflects broader industry trends toward collaborative models that leverage specialized expertise to overcome deployment challenges and support long-term energy objectives.
