Wedoany.com Report-Jan.2,This week, the first shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States arrived at the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) terminal near the port of Alexandroupolis in northeastern Greece, destined for the Bulgarian market. The LNG was transported by the international supply and trading arm of Greece's Metlen company. Metlen is one of the region's leading private natural gas consumers and traders, as well as a significant LNG importer in Greece. In an announcement, Metlen stated its goal is to ensure natural gas supply security for the entire Balkan region. The company's CEO, Panagiotis Kanellopoulos, said in a video statement, "We welcome the arrival of the first US LNG."
Bulgaria, Greece, and Romania have jointly committed to promoting the development of a strategic energy transport corridor connecting the Aegean Sea with the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea. Earlier this month, the three countries signed a relevant Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in Brussels. The document was established under the framework of the newly created Black Sea-Aegean Sea Vertical Corridor Platform and received support from the European Commission and the European Investment Bank.
