Iowa Establishes Nuclear Energy Task Force

Recently, Iowa Governor Kimberly Kay Reynolds signed an executive order establishing a Nuclear Energy Task Force in Iowa. This task force will provide recommendations to the Governor, the legislature, and state agencies on "the development and expansion of nuclear energy technology and infrastructure in Iowa."

Governor Kimberly Kay Reynolds stated: Nuclear energy is a critical component of Iowa's energy future. I am committed to advancing reliable, sustainable energy solutions to enhance our energy independence and promote economic growth.

It is understood that the group will consist of 14 members, including representatives from utility companies, electric generation companies, local governments, academia, the Iowa Utilities Board, and the state legislature. The task force will be chaired by Mark Nutt, Director of the Nuclear Energy Program at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
