Wedoany.com Report on Feb 2nd, Nick Harris, the Chief Executive Officer of National Highways UK, has announced his resignation. Harris stated on Thursday, "Now is the right time for me to hand over the leadership to a new team to take the organization into its next phase." However, The Sunday Times, citing sources, reported that Harris was effectively forced out after losing the trust of the board.
The report indicated that the board's dissatisfaction primarily stemmed from Harris's handling of the speed camera issue. Defects in speed cameras exposed late last year led to some drivers being incorrectly recorded for speeding and triggered erroneous penalty issuances. This incident exacerbated the tensions between Harris and the board.
The Sunday Times further revealed that an investigation led by non-executive directors from the Department for Transport is underway and is expected to make recommendations regarding corporate governance and accountability mechanisms. The report suggested that the findings might imply criticism for Harris and other senior executives. Following Harris's resignation, National Highways UK will commence the process of selecting a new Chief Executive Officer.
