American Signal Company Builds Thousand-Mile Fiber Network in the Midwest to Strengthen AI Infrastructure Connectivity

The network utilizes multi-conduit systems and high-fiber-count cables, aiming to avoid potential capacity bottlenecks as AI workloads scale.

As artificial intelligence training and inference tasks continue to increase data traffic, many infrastructure providers are investing more in fiber density and physical optionality. The middle-mile network has become particularly critical, as it enables enterprises and service providers to efficiently transfer large datasets between data centers, reducing reliance on congested metro or long-haul paths.

American Signal Company stated that the new fiber network will directly interconnect its existing core data centers and support the future development of edge data centers along the fiber path. This architecture helps meet the demands of latency-sensitive AI applications, hybrid cloud deployments, and scalable transport needs from regional service providers.

The company offers services such as dark fiber, lit services, hosted connections, and cloud proximity infrastructure. It noted that the construction projects in Ohio and Indiana are just one phase of its broader multi-state expansion strategy. This fiber network construction will further enhance the digital infrastructure level in the Midwest, supporting the development of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and cloud computing.
