UK-based Softcat to Acquire North America's GDT, Expanding IT Solutions

The two companies have complementary business portfolios, and the combined entity will build a transatlantic IT solutions platform that serves clients with international needs while also bringing growth opportunities in both companies' home markets.

GDT is a North American technology solutions provider focused on data center and networking services. UK-headquartered Softcat's portfolio primarily focuses on IT procurement and lifecycle management, with market coverage spanning Ireland and other global markets, offering software licensing, hardware, cloud, networking, cybersecurity, AI, data, and workplace solutions. For the past three years, Softcat has ranked first in CRN's UK VAR (Value Added Reseller) rankings. The acquisition of GDT is the result of its multi-year search for a North American company with the scale, capabilities, and cultural fit to support its international growth strategy. Upon completion of the transaction, GDT will retain its name, leadership team, and workforce, operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of Softcat.

For clients of both companies, the combination of their business portfolios will provide end-to-end solutions, services, and vendor relationships, simplifying procurement, accelerating transformation initiatives, and delivering expertise across the full IT lifecycle from desktop to data center. The expanded range of capabilities will also help clients build the secure, connected infrastructure needed to support AI workloads.

The two parties will also invest in expanding GDT's Global Operations Center in Bangalore (Bangalore). This investment will enhance the center's engineering expertise, optimize business systems, and provide 24/7 service, bringing clients stronger global support and deeper technical resources.
