Quantinuum and Saudi Aramco Sign Non-Binding Quantum R&D Memorandum
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Quantinuum and Saudi Aramco have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding in Riyadh to collaborate on industrial quantum computing applications in the energy sector, exploring specific industrial use cases, advancing quantum computing capabilities, and laying the groundwork for potential fault-tolerant quantum computing research collaborations.

Under the memorandum, the parties plan to first conduct technology access and knowledge exchange, and identify problems within Saudi Aramco's operations suitable for quantum computing research, covering energy operations and digital transformation. The parties will also assess the capability of future generations of quantum computing systems to address relevant scientific and industrial problems, and conduct benchmarking comparisons of different quantum computing technology approaches. The document did not disclose investment amounts, the number of specific research projects, or a timeline for launching formal R&D programs.
Saudi Aramco has already deployed its own quantum computing infrastructure. In November 2025, Saudi Aramco and Pasqal completed the deployment of Saudi Arabia's first neutral-atom quantum computer for industrial applications at the Dhahran data center; in May 2026, the two parties activated the system and launched the Middle East's first commercial quantum computing-as-a-service platform, allowing external users to remotely access quantum hardware through a secure cloud platform.
According to Saudi Aramco's first-quarter 2026 materials, its quantum computing program had previously completed network and software configuration, optical calibration, and cloud integration, with logistics optimization, secure communications, and advanced simulation listed within its applied research scope. Following the memorandum with Quantinuum, the parties plan to continue identifying computing tasks in the energy sector based on existing quantum technology efforts and conduct evaluations of different quantum computing architectures.
