Wedoany.com Report on Feb 25th, The Civil Aviation Decarbonization Organization (CADO), 123Carbon, and the Assure SAF Registry have entered into a cooperation agreement aimed at achieving interoperability between their respective Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) registry systems. This collaboration will focus on exchanging verified SAF attribute integrity information between the registries to support the widespread global application of SAF.
Michael Schneider, Executive Director of CADO, noted: "The fragmented and customized nature of the SAF market impacts deployment speed and delays the aviation industry's emission reduction progress. Ensuring the integrity of SAF registries is crucial for market scaling. Through this collaborative pilot, we are establishing shared checks and standards to eliminate the risk of double counting and maintain a unified, credible record of SAF emission reduction claims."
Jeroen van Heiningen, Managing Director of 123Carbon, stated: "As a multimodal registry with over 150 users, 123Carbon is committed not only to providing integrity and trust but also to supporting efficient market transactions. This pilot is a first step to avoid duplicate certificate issuance and enhance trust. Since each registry has its own stakeholders, the market expects us to collaborate, which requires deeper interoperability to allow certificates to be transferred between registries."
Jessica Masters, SAF Director at 4AIR, added: "Reliable SAF attribute tracking and defensible voluntary and regulatory claims depend on robust integrity controls across the entire ecosystem. Through the 4AIR and Assure registry, we focus on strengthening this foundation through data transparency and verification. This interoperability pilot establishes shared safeguards to verify SAF attributes across registries, identify duplication risks early, and maintain the credibility of SAF claims as the market expands."
The cooperation will promote coordination and standardization, enhancing transparency, which are crucial factors for the creation of the SAF market. By strengthening cross-industry sustainable aviation fuel integrity, this initiative is expected to accelerate the global adoption of SAF and drive the aviation industry towards a more sustainable future.
