A staircase extends from the family's sloping terracotta tile roof, leading upwards to a nearby structure, adding a unique feature to the local landscape.

The architectural design of this staircase is ingenious. Enclosed in wood and cleverly perforated with portholes, it presents a playful yet harmonious picture against the mountainous backdrop. The residential architectural design was handled by Pedro&Juana, a Mexico City-based firm operated by Mecky Reuss and Ana Paula Ruiz Galindo. The design involved adding the staircase and a rear extension for a client needing more space.

Pedro&Juana's architectural design integrates old and new structures while promoting the use of Mexican timber in architecture. The original house was designed by José Iturbe, with the staircase being a prominent feature due to its location on a slope rising from the mountain's waterline. Drawing inspiration from this existing structural theme, Pedro&Juana created access to the new two-story extension. Located at the rear of the house, the new extension makes full use of previously neglected open space.

In terms of architectural design, the renovated staircase and tunnel not only extend the house's original elements and physically expand the living space but also orient a new courtyard between the structures. This enhances the house's functionality and provides a more comfortable living experience.
