Wedoany.com Report on Mar 2nd, Textile Exchange has recently unveiled a three-step implementation pathway for members of its Action Groups, aimed at accelerating the transition to sustainable material sourcing in the textile industry. This Action Group is one of two groups within the action-oriented membership launched by Textile Exchange in November 2025, specifically targeting brands, retailers, and raw material producers, providing them with concrete operational steps.

The first step requires Action Group members to begin reporting data related to material sourcing or production. Reporting will remain voluntary in 2026 but will become mandatory for brands and retailers by 2027. Other tiers of organizations will have mandatory reporting phased in over a longer timeframe. Members currently participating in Textile Exchange's Material Benchmark can continue their existing processes during this phase.
The second step involves members increasing the proportion of their sourcing from certified preferred production systems, with certification based on recognized standards and third-party assurance schemes. Key focus areas include pesticide and fertilizer use, deforestation and land conversion, animal welfare, textile-to-textile recycling, human rights and livelihoods, and overall certified or verified sourcing. Textile Exchange will support members in setting targets aligned with industry goals. Target setting will become mandatory for brands and retailers in 2027, with suppliers and producers following suit.
The third step involves Textile Exchange's plan to accelerate collective action for systemic transformation by facilitating working groups involving brands, retailers, suppliers, and producers who demonstrate leadership in driving credible change within the industry. Sarah Needham, Chief Engagement and Partnership Officer at Textile Exchange, stated: "By introducing a clear pathway for our new Action Groups, we provide structure and confidence for organizations sourcing materials and producing, to accelerate their impact and help transform our industry.
"We know the ambition and willingness for change exist. This new approach clearly outlines how we will move forward, specifying the steps needed to accelerate the shift towards preferred production systems and supporting organizations to drive lasting impact." The membership also includes a Community Group for organizations not directly involved in raw material production or sourcing, offering resources such as reporting, research, online forums, and event discounts. In contrast, Action Group members receive additional expert guidance and practical support to improve the sourcing or production of responsible materials.
