Wedoany.com Report on Mar 6th, UPM Energy has announced an investment of over €20 million to modernize the Tyrvää hydropower plant located in the Pirkanmaa region of Finland. This project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2030 and aims to enhance the efficiency and environmental friendliness of the hydropower facility.
The modernization involves several technical upgrades, including refurbishing the turbine generator units, installing new generator stators, overhauling the rotors, and replacing oil-lubricated turbine runners with water-lubricated ones. These measures help reduce environmental risks and improve the reliability of the hydropower plant.
Additionally, the project will introduce modern automation and control systems, covering new turbine controllers and emergency automation systems to enhance dam safety. As a clean energy source, hydropower plays a crucial role in balancing fluctuations in the power system, especially against the backdrop of increasing adoption of weather-dependent energy sources like wind and solar power.
This investment by UPM Energy supports the growth of clean and flexible electricity generation in Finland. By optimizing the hydropower facility, it provides more stable support for regional energy supply. The hydropower modernization project not only improves energy efficiency but also promotes sustainable energy development, contributing to the achievement of low-carbon goals.
