Drayage FacilityUS logistics company IMC recently announced the opening of a new drayage facility in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, marking the company's first business expansion outside the United States. The facility is scheduled to be fully operational in the second quarter of 2026, aiming to enhance cross-border freight support capabilities and provide domestic maritime drayage services in Canada.
In a March 5 announcement, IMC CEO Joel Henry stated, "This expansion is to better support Canadian shippers who are broadening their sourcing strategies to remain competitive. The resulting increase in container volumes allows IMC to deepen relationships with existing customers and seize new growth opportunities."
In a March 6 email to Transport Topics, Henry said the initial staff size will be small, but the company anticipates rapid growth. IMC is finalizing the lease agreement for the new facility and expects to initially utilize internal rolling stock as well as partner capacity if needed. Henry added, "We are also exploring potential acquisitions to achieve immediate fleet growth in Toronto."
On Transport Topics' list of the Top 100 For-Hire Carriers in North America, IMC ranks 53rd overall and 5th on the Intermodal/Drayage list. Currently, IMC operates 48 locations across North America, including the Toronto facility. Prior to opening the Toronto office, the latest addition to IMC's portfolio was a facility opened in Mobile, Alabama, last October. IMC owns the Mobile facility, having purchased the land for the 12-acre operational site and built offices and a yard capable of accommodating 500 containers.
IMC is also nearing completion of the renovation of its facility in Newark, New Jersey. Henry stated that the yard at that site has been upgraded with new concrete and a loading lift for stacking empty and loaded containers, while the warehouse expansion has been completed and is fully operational. IMC is currently constructing new office space, which will complete the facility's renovation.
