Wedoany.com Report on Mar 10th, Danish tanker owner Rederiet MH Simonsen has recently placed an order for two polar-class tankers at Turkey's Ada Shipyard, continuing its fleet renewal program. The new vessels feature diesel-electric propulsion systems, each with a deadweight tonnage of approximately 3,500 tons, and are specifically designed for polar operations, which will enhance the company's operational flexibility in northern waters.

Rederiet MH Simonsen is a family-owned shipping company founded in 1931, currently operating over 10 tankers with deadweight tonnage ranging from 2,000 to 7,000 tons. The fleet primarily operates in the European small tanker market, transporting vegetable oils, fats, molasses, ethanol, and fertilizer-related products. Some of its vessels are already active in Arctic waters; for example, the tanker Orasila regularly transports clean petroleum products in Greenland.

The newly ordered polar tankers are expected to boost Simonsen's competitiveness in the northern markets, which often require vessels with ice-class capabilities. The company is headquartered in Svendborg, Denmark, and is managed by Lars Hjorth Simonsen, son of the founder Martin Hjorth Simonsen. Commercial operations are handled independently through its internal chartering department.
