en.Wedoany.com Reported - Siemens Energy has secured an order to supply gas turbine and steam turbine technology for the 2.6 GW Taweelah C Independent Power Producer (IPP) project in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The order covers three gas turbines, two steam turbines, five generators, and associated auxiliary systems for this combined-cycle power plant. This will be the third power plant equipped by Siemens Energy at the Taweelah site. The new plant is designed to enhance power generation flexibility, support grid stability, and facilitate the integration of larger shares of renewable energy into Abu Dhabi's grid. The plant design includes provisions for future carbon capture and storage infrastructure interfaces, aligning with the UAE's goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

The project is being developed by an international consortium led by the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company, with members including Saudi Arabia's Al Jomaih Energy and Water Company and Singapore's Sembcorp Industries. The engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract is undertaken by China Energy Engineering Group. Once operational, all electricity generated by the plant will be purchased by the Emirates Water and Electricity Company.

Components for the new plant will be manufactured at Siemens Energy's global production bases. The SGT5-9000HL gas turbines and SST5-5000 steam turbines will be built in Germany in Berlin and Mülheim, while the SGen5-3000W and SGen5-2000P generators will be assembled at the company's factory in Charlotte, USA.

Karim Amin, Member of the Executive Board of Siemens Energy, stated that as global energy systems face pressure from growing demand and the dual requirements of reliability and flexibility, dispatchable gas-fired power generation is playing an increasingly critical role. He expressed pride in contributing the company's technology and expertise to the Taweelah C project, which includes the first HL-class gas turbine in the UAE, offering industry-leading performance. He also noted that this milestone builds on a long tradition of supporting UAE energy security and economic development, reinforcing the strategic partnership commitment to serving the nation's ambitions.

Last month, Siemens Energy also signed an agreement with Mai-Liao Power to supply major equipment and long-term services for a 2.4 GW gas-fired combined-cycle power plant to be built in Taiwan.
