According to a report by Axios on Wednesday citing two informed sources, Venezuela's state-owned mining company has signed a multi-million dollar agreement to sell up to 1,000 kilograms of gold dore bars to the commodity trader Trafigura Group for the U.S. market.

Axios reported that the agreement requires Venezuela's mining company Minerven to supply Trafigura with 650 to 1,000 kilograms of gold dore bars. The report added that, under another arrangement with the U.S. government, Trafigura would send this gold to a refinery.

Just the day before, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum had concluded a visit to the South American country, with the focus being on mining.

Burgum, who also serves as Chairman of the U.S. National Energy Dominance Council, praised the efforts of Venezuela's interim President Delcy Rodriguez to open the country's oil and mineral investments to foreigners, echoing the assessment of U.S. President Donald Trump.
