Wedoany.com Report on Mar 16th, VIAVI Solutions has launched the TestCenter D2 1.6T device, an Ethernet test platform designed specifically for validating next-generation AI data center networks operating at 1.6T speeds. The system targets hyperscale enterprises, cloud providers, and network equipment manufacturers who are preparing for the large-scale deployment of 1.6T Ethernet fabrics that support emerging AI workloads.
The new platform features high-capacity traffic generation and analysis capabilities, enabling comprehensive testing of network performance, interoperability, and reliability. VIAVI designed the device to simulate large-scale AI workloads and validate multi-vendor environments, allowing network operators to evaluate the performance of switching, optical transport, and interconnect technologies before deployment. The TestCenter D2 also supports multi-rate operations within evolving network architectures, reflecting the industry's transition from 800G systems to 1.6T Ethernet infrastructure.
VIAVI plans to showcase the TestCenter D2 1.6T device at Booth 1239 during the OFC 2026 exhibition in Los Angeles. The system also received a score of 4.0 in the 2026 Lightwave Innovation Reviews, indicating early industry recognition of the platform's capabilities in validating next-generation Ethernet fabrics for AI-scale infrastructure.
Tom Fawcett, Senior Vice President and General Manager of VIAVI Labs and Production, stated: "Current validation technologies are struggling to keep pace with the unprecedented performance and scale demands of AI and next-generation cloud architectures... The launch of the TestCenter D2 1.6T device helps change this situation, giving customers the confidence they need in the speed, reliability, and interoperability of new 1.6T-class networks."
The transition from 800G to 1.6T Ethernet is rapidly reshaping the AI data center ecosystem, particularly the backend cluster fabrics connecting GPUs and accelerators. Testing and validation vendors like VIAVI, Keysight, EXFO, and Spirent are racing to provide tools capable of simulating full-scale AI traffic patterns and validating interoperability across multi-vendor hardware stacks.
VIAVI has steadily expanded its AI infrastructure testing portfolio, including earlier 1.6T capabilities in the ONE LabPro platform and additional optical validation tools showcased at OFC. As hyperscalers deploy increasingly massive AI clusters based on 224G electrical lanes and 1.6T optical modules, comprehensive traffic generation and protocol validation systems are becoming a critical step in accelerating production deployment and ensuring network reliability at scale.
